The Russian City of the Dead. It is known as Dargavs and it keeps hold on a windy mountainside, filled up over the centuries. Bones and skulls lie in open coffins and boats with oars, thought to carry the souls across The River of the Dead to the afterlife.
Little wells are filled with coins by relatives, perhaps to pay the ferryman on the Stygian river where souls go.
These were Ossetians, an ancient race, whose dead live on in little houses in a vast necropolis in Russian wilderness. It is said the living who go in to stare in wonderment never leave.
